40 mins of terror

I went for the Sebaceous Cyst surgery today. So my mum went with me to CGH in the morning and registered and waited for my turn to go to the chopping board.

Weirdly, a youngster, about as old as me, had his turn in front of mine. His name was, Goh Wei Jie. LOL. So the nurse there happily called us by our surnames.

All rights, so i went to get changed into the surgical robe and soon after i went into the surgical room.

The atmosphere there was tense. It's really like what u see in movies, with the big satellite dish lamp over ur head. And the size of the bed u lie on is about half as wide as a single-size bed. So as soon as i lay down, devices to measure my heart rate and blood pressure were attached to my thigh and arm. My legs were strapped down to prevent me from falling and there were blankets to cover my entire body up, except for my right cheek.

It's pretty scary to be blindfolded and having no idea when the anesthetic jab will go right into ur face. When it finally did, it really gave me a shock. The sting was surprisingly not painful, but when the contents are injected, thats a really good game... Whats worse is, 4 jabs were given, on points that join up to be a square.

And so, the surgeon asked me whether i felt sth sharp on my face, seems like he's holding a scapel down on my cheek. It felt blunt though.

Finally an incision and the surgery started. After a while, the terror begun. WHY? The anesthetic wore off. GREAT.

I started to feel sharp pain whenever the surgeon is digging around the wound or sth like that. And so much so it starts to get really unbearable and painful that the surgeon realised i was struggling with the pain. The anesthesia was supposed to numb the pain and make it feel like theres some itching going on. He found it pretty odd and so he gave me another dose of the anesthesia. It relieved me for awhile... But after 3 or 4 mins, it wore off again. And the pain resumed.

Now he really found it odd that i was in such pain then he ordered the nurses to get him a stronger anesthesia. Then after he injected the stronger dose, it felt alot better. BUT ONCE AGAIN. 5 mins later, it wore off.

Cause i was awake, he told me that the cyst had already ruptured and was infected. Then he said MAYBE the infected cyst caused a higher blood flow to the cheek rendering the anesthetic ineffective. WTF. It sounds as though he nvr encounter this situation before and made me feel like a guinea pig.

The worse part came. Stitching up of the wound... It really sucks. I had a total of 6 stitches, 4 of which i could totally feel the needle piercing thru my skin. I tell you, the pain was so terrible I fought with it so much that my whole surgical robe was wet with my sweat after the surgery. During the stitching he had to give me another dose of the strong local anesthesia.

In summary, a had 5 doses of anesthesia in 40 minutes when 1 was supposed to numb pain for 30 minutes.

It really took a toll on me. Was damned tired after surgery was over. Like used up all my strength fighting against the pain.

The ordeal was finally over. Phew.

Imma have nightmares man.
